Truthfully, I wasn't expecting to like this album very much, as I have never been a huge fan of Katy Perry. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. Smile has something that I've been saying was missing from the music industry for years now: lyrical, non-repetitive choruses. So often in the modern music industry, you'll hear a song and the chorus will be nothing other than an instrumental with the title of the song repeated over and over again. That's something that, to me, makes a song boring and that's something that I didn't find much listening to this album. In addition, all of the songs sound different and unique while maintaining a cohesive feel. None of the songs felt out of place. Vocally, the album was decent. None of the vocals were overly impressive but it was still enjoyable to listen to and fun to sing along with. Lyrically, I think this album was spectacular. The songs are relatable and often times were making me think about how they apply to my personal life. Overall, I think Ms. Perry went above and beyond with this album and I look forward to listening to her next body of work.
